: MediaTakeOut.com has learned that Sports Illustrated is facing a backlash over its new Swimsuit Edition. According to reports, a number of models are privately upset that Beyonce, a singer, was chosen as this year\'s cover girl.
And the tension appears to be growing. An insider at a prominent New York modeling agency told MediaTakeOut.com exactly how she felt about the decision. She explained, \"The cover spot is supposed to go to the top model in the industry. This year it went Beyonce. It\'s an insult ... There isn\'t a model alive that doesn’t find [Sports Illustrated\'s] choice offensive.\"
And it\'s not just angry supermodels that the magazine has to contend with. Some Sports Illustrated readers are also upset with the new issue. But these readers aren\'t just upset with Beyonce - they\'re upset with the number of Black artists featured in the magazine. The new issue, which also features Kanye West and Cee-Lo from Gnarls Barkley, is being referred to on sports message boards as the \"Ghetto issue.\"
And those angry readers are taking their complaints directly to the magazine. Tells one magazine employee, \"The calls are nonstop ... Some of these guys have been subscribing to Sports Illustrated for years just so they can get the Swimsuit Issue before it hits the stands. This is like blasphemy to most of them who don\'t know who Beyonce or Kanye are.”
So far Sports Illustrated has refused to comment on this brewing controversy.
I'm no big fan of Beyonce, but i don't see nothing wrong with her on the cover. They hate to see a black face take there spot and shine.
Some one or a lot of other people have that shirt. But I like it.
I don't see what is wrong with it. Beyonce isn't ugly they're just racist. I think that they should just be happy because most of those girls that be on the front cover look horribl anyway. I'm glad we have someone black on there. She shouldn't feel intimidated by what people say. Like I say thy're just haters and they're are everywhere.
Beyonce'was just voted sexiest woman alive or something like that by a men's magazine. It was an intelligent move on SI's part to put her on the cover immediately following the media sexiest woman blitz....actors get mad when rappers act...models get mad when beautiful singers model...puuuhhhllleeeze...this is so stupid...
have yall seen what this chick look like with her weave out and no make-up!!!!! i mean thats 80% of the broads (celebrities and singers) of this day and age but damn yall gota realize .. new movie .. hit song... magazine sales = $$$$ so SI is sayin to hell with a model!!!lol
beyonce isnt a model she is a singer and SI swimsuit cover is suppose to go the sexiest model of the year not sexiest singer and plus beyonce isnt even all that and she is all fake and shit from her hair, skin, eyes, and body
This is a Joke
People should be more angry that it took this long to put a black woman on the cover, after tyra
tell the Thin-ass supermodel's to get over it! and go home and eat a sandwich
and i will be buying this so called black issue long overdue
I don't think it was a good move on SI, but as well I don't see it being a major issue.
Think of the owners of SI. That would be CNN, which is Time Warner, which really is under the CBS/Viacom/Paramount family.
I dare anyone to find if B's films, projects are NOT under this media entity.
The fact that many of the readers of SI are calling this a "ghetto issue" since it includes Kanye, Beyonce and CeeLo shows that this is an issue of race. Neither of these individuals are "ghetto". Now if Keeshia Cole had made the front cover, they may have had a point....but this is clearly racism on part of the readers. Beyonce is beautiful (true, money helps) but go on and do you thing girl. Not many black women have graced the cover of SI swimsuit edition and I'm happy she was chosen
how is this a so called "ghetto issue" when beyonce is not a ghetto, lound mouth person herself. They just hate the fact that a black beauty is replaceing a white hore.I'm also very happy to see her on the swimsuit edition,"beyonce keep doing your thing"
THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH BEYONCE TAPPING INTO VARIOUS MEDIA OUTLETS BUT I HAVE TO SIDE WITH THE DISGRUNTALED MODELS ON THIS ONE. MODELS WORK VERY HARD AT THERE CRAFT AND TAKE IT VERY SERIOUSLY ONLY TO HAVE THERE DREAM CRUSHED BY SOMEONE WHO HAS NO REAL INTEREST IN MODELING.
First of all...Black Is Beautiful! ok? SI knew what they were doing because it's february. Black history month is still alive and kicking and by putting a mega-platinum female artist who is considered one of the hottest women on the cover the knew that it was going to catch a lot of people's attention. Second of all...fifty million and one unknown white chicks are on the cover for just being a model, some of them two and three times. All the men want is boobs and butt and Bey has enuff of that to spare. She loves being the eye-candy of the entertainment industry so if that's what she wants to do then let her. I wouldn't care if she was light-bright-i-could-pass-for-almost-white... if she still 2% black, she black! power to OUR people. i dunno 'bout all the fakeness but if it works for them then hey!
first off for all women out there who hate on beyonce, now beyonce might bot be a supermodel but she is beatiful and are breaking barriers not just for black but all women every time she steps up somone TRYS to pull her down but never succeeds, and this may be a little known fact but beyonce is a model for house of dereon which she is wearing in the SI magizine i bet the SI mag sells just as much if not more
THIS GO BACK TO MY FIRST COMMENT ON THE ISSUE. HOW MANY AFRICAN AMERICAN REALLY READS SPORTS ILLUSTRATION. WHILE PEOPLE ARE FEELING THAT MOST COMMENTS WERE HATING ON BEYONCE. NO THE FACT IS SI SELLS SEX TO THE WHITE POP. AND THEY DO NOT FEEL MOST OF OUR PEOPLE ARE SEXY. THESE READER WHICH ARE MOSTLY WHITE MALES WHO WANTS TO SEE THEIR SEXY FEMALES ON THE COVER OF THE MAGAZINE AND SI HAS ALWAYS USED MODELS AND YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT IF WE DO NOT BUY THIS ISSUE THAT THE SELLS WILL OUT BE A TURN OUT LIKE THE OTHER SWIMSUIT ISSUES. SI TOOK A BIG STEP TRYING TO JUMP ON THE BAND WAGON WITH THE ISSUE BETWEEN JENNIFER AND BEYONCE, BECAUSE WE MADE THAT ISSUE OURSELVES NOT THE WHITE MEDIA.
Somebody is always going to hate. I for one am happy that she got on the cover. I just wonder if she is hot enough for this kind of exposure I hope it doesn't hurt her. She strikes me as a dull cover girl. Most models are truly exotic, perfect skin, great real hair, teeth, bone structure even if they are not necessarily talented.
Although I am not a Beyonce fan, she does look nice and apparently works hard on her body to stay that way. She is a well known female celebrity that appeals to both audiences. Its hard to believe that as much media as she gets, that one would not know who she was. And by the way, who knows who the "regular" swimsuit models are anyway?
there is nothing wrong with the picture and the only reason the models are angry is becasue shes not skinny. its about time they put a full figured women on the damn magazine and it took them hell of a long time to put another black person on the damn magazine.
And the whole Ghetto thing. BEYONCE IS NO WERE NEAR GHETTO. IF FOXY BROWN OR LITTLE KIM WAS ON THE FRONT THEN PPL CAN COMPLAIN.
this is deffinetly a race issue but it doesnt suprispe me because the entertainment industy is racist. im just waitin for them to accept dark skin women as beautiful
"These are photos I can show my kids some day so I can say, 'See, momma was beautiful. Look how good I looked!".
THIS IS FROM HER INTERVIEW AS TO WHY SHE DID THE COVER.
AS FAR AS BEYONCE BEING AN AMATURE MODEL FOR THE HOUSE OF DEREON..SHE IS STILL NOT CONSIDER A MODEL IN THE REAL WORLD. SHE STATED HERSELF SHE HAD TO LOSE WEIGHT TO DO THIS ISSUE.
HONESTLY AS FAR AS THE HOSE OF DEREON THE SHYT IS GHETTO. YOU NEVER SEE BEYONCE WITH ANY OF THAT SHYT ON AT PUBLIC GATHERINGS, SHE IS ALWAYS WEARING SOMEONE ELSE SHYT.
ANY FUCKIN WAY!!!!!LET THEM SKINNY HO'S EAT SOME CHIPS!!BEYONCE IS COOL ON THAT COVER, THIS MAGAZINE HAS ALWAY HELD WHITE WOMEN TO THE HIGHEST STANDARED OF BEAUTI BUT THEY ARE CHANGING THEIR ATTITUDE CAUSE BLACK WOMEN. ARE BE COMING REAL MAIN STREAM ON ANY COVER.. I QUEST THEY MADD AT JENIFER HUDSON FOR GRABBIN UP VOGUE LAST MONTH TOO.. THIS IS A RACE ISSUE, AND THE COMPLAINERS ARE MOSTLY WHITE WOMEN.. YOU KNOW WHITE WOMEN DOMINATE ALL THE MAGAZINES ON THE NEWS STAND, WITH THEIR TANNED DARK BODIES , AND BLOWN UP LIPS.. THEY WANT TO LOOK LIKE US SO MUCH. BUT CANT STAND TO SEE THE REAL THING ON THE STANDS... huh???? what the hell!! Thank you SI for putting beyonce on that cover., they asses will get over it.. she probablie will take the place of a lot more of they asses.. you see beyonce got the cross over appeal, whites and blacks see her as sexy!!! damit.. and so does the mens magazine who voted her as the sexyest woman alive last year.. so stop the hatin..
those models who are complaining more than likely wouldnt have even been choosen.. after eatin 15 steak dinners,, and sittin in the sun 15 days.. black is beautiful in all shades.. sorry!!!!!!!!!!
That shit is just jelousy & racisim. Black people are naturaly beautiful people. Dont be mad apreciate what good gave you to look at. Ha Ha
BIG UP TO ANY BLACK PERSON DOIN BIG THINGS. LET THEM HATE. THEY KID WILL BUY IT. HA HA
BLACK STAR POWER. GET WIT IT. WE AINT GOIN NO WHERE.
Ok Lovely..True racism exists as a big part of america still but no one said that we had to remain in it. even if she's not into modeling, it's still breaking through the stereotypes that have been placed upon blacks. we only got our civil rights in the 60's, so fifty years is still a small amount of time for us to say that we have grown as free people. but given the right to do anything we want now, I see no reason for why we should hold ourselves back because other racist people can't handle it. if you think about it we still have a long way to go before we can truly say we have advanced to the point where we as a people really would like to be. And it all starts with OUR people knowing that WE can do it, so fukk every racist out there because that's their jobs. To KEEP us down...and like before our people are still falling prey to what others think. especially others who didn't have to fight so hard to get where they are now..so Lovely I ask..Where do YOU stand?
I love that girl Beyonce. I applaud her for stepping out the box and breaking down barriers. I very proud to be a fan of hers. Everything Beyonce touches will immediately have some hate drawn to it. At least she doing her stuff right cause if you doing it right then you will have negativity and haters. Keep doing yo sh@t Beyonce. I will be waiting for her next big move in Hollywood!!!!!
YOU PEOPLE ARE TRULY STUCK ON RASISM!!!! HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT THAT MAYBE YOU ARE THE INSTERGATER OF RASIM???? THE PROBLEM WITH THIS ISSUE IS THAT MOST OF THE POEOPLE THAT BUY SI ARE WHITE AMERICANS AND THEIR USED TO SEEING A MODEL NOT A SINGER ON THE COVER AND HAVEING THREE BLACK PEOPLE ALL IN THE SAME BOOK IS A BIG CHANGE FOR THEM AND SI IS GOING TO HAVE ALOT DIS-SATIFIED CUSTOMERS
Models are nothing anymore. The world of modeling is dead. There are only a hand full of Models who are household names. Beyonce is everywhere and she was just voted the sexiest woman alive. So clearly she makes more of an impact then just any skinny bitch who just smiles for the camera. Beyonce is a goddess and any thing she touches is hot. So if your mad that she is on the cover then I guess it sucks to be you. And as far as this being the "ghetto issue" of SI...Black America is making and uprise in the world so If you dont like it then I guess you need to leave America because we dont plan on stopping any time soon
lol kay i dont think beyonce is dating him anymore and plus i she looks good does dam models hating on her and all the other black artist on the cover they look good and all tht matters because the dam white people buy it r racist or it mayb a mto
It's an intelligent, strategic move on SI's part being they have an invested interest with Beyonce's other ventures ie. movies, fashion, music etc. The white's (model's and readers) who are upset and calling it the "Ghetto issue" are just racist and jealous. And for those saying to not make it a race issue, why not? It's more of a reality issue. You don't here Jews saying "Don't make it an Anti-Semite" issue when someone dares to saying something against a Jewish person. No they stand up, speak and take action against who ever it is...rightfully so. Go Beyonce! Thanks to SI ........and to all the racist whites and ignorant blacks who continue to critize Beyonce "Join together and go jump off the nearest bridge ".....One
There is always gonna be someone hatin. This is what i say about haters. The more u have haters, the more u know u doing something right. and that comment about the readers not knowing who Beyonce is is bull****. Beyonce is all over the place. Even if u lived under a rock, u would still know who she is. majority of the time they put random models on the cover and no one knows who they are. I can only name 2 Victoria's Secret models and that's because they have stepped out of the modeling world and have done movies and tv shows. everybody knows Beyonce and everybody especially knows Kanye after those Hurricane Katrina comments. Kanye, B, and Gnarls Barkley are the only black artists in the issue compared to the other 10 white acts. but i guess for those people that are racist, 1 is too many. Beyonce looks gorgeous and this cover is a major accomplishment because she is the first non model to get the cover of the swimsuit issue and she is upstaging all those anorexic and bulimic models. So to the haters, yall know what yall can do. keep hatin cuz Beyonce is still gonna be top dog. Beyonce, keep doin ya thing. Can't wait for the re-release of B'Day!! We love ya B!!
HERE IS A THOUGHT FOR BLACK WOMEN:
IF WE STOP LETTING THE MEDIA DEBATE FOR US ON WHAT IS BEAUTY CONCERNING OUR PEOPLE, THAN WE WOULD NOT BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION.
IF AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN WHEN THEY ARE ON MAGAZINE AND PHOTOGRAPH WOULD BE NATURAL, THIS WOULD NO HAPPEN, BUT INSTEAD WE WILL DOWN A BLONDE WIG, LET THEM AIRBRUSH OUR FEATURES TO THIN THEM OUT.
LIGHTEN OUR COMPLEXION TO DEFINE BEAUTY THAT IS THE CLOSEST TO WHITE AMERICAN FEMALES.
THEN WE ARGUE AND ACCUSE EACH OTHERS OF HATING ON THE OTHER, WHEN HALF OF US IS JUST ORGINALLY FEMALES WITH OUR ORGINIAL HERTIAGE.
THIS SHYT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AND TO MAKE IT WORST WE HAVE MEDIA TAKE OUT; WHICH IS SUPPOSE TO BE AFRICAN AMERICAN THAT CREATE THIS BULLSHYT FOR US.
AND WE POST COMMENTS ABOUT EACH OTHERS INSTEAD OF EMBRACING THE OTHER AND MOVING ON.
OKAY BEYONCE IS ON SI..GREAT FOR THE SISTER. AND YES IT IS HALF RACIST BUT IS IT MOSTLY OUR FAULT THAT THIS SHYT HAPPENS, IF BEYONCE WAS DARKER, WITHOUT THIN FEATURES WOULD WE BE THIS UPSET?
IF AN ORGINALLY BLACK FEMALES WAS ON THE COVER WE WOULD BE DOWNING HER (RIGHT).
NO OF US KNOW BEYONCE PERSONALLY AND WILL NEVER KNOW HER IN OUR LIFE TIME, SO IF ONE PERSON DISAGREE IS IT NOT HATRE, IT IS THEIR FEELING TOWARDS THE ARTICLE.
It was time for a change for SI. So what if a beautiful singer is on the cover. As for the "ghetto issue" comment, you know some things will never be white enough for some.
The modeling industry can just get over themselves wanting every cover and print ad on earth.
Okay now normally I would never take Beyonces side about anything because I feel that is blown WAY out of proportion but SI has always taken slack whenever a black woman is on the cover (remember the Tyra scandal?) As for this issue being called the "ghetto issue" so what? Black people barely even read SI unless its guys looking at the swimsuit issue otherwise who normally even cares? This is a great way for SI to sell their magazine to someone other than white america.
I don't remember none of this "controversy" when Tyra Banks was on the cover of SI. Not oce but TWICE! So what are they so exactly protesting? That's there is a black woman on the cover or that she's not a supermodel on the cover? The cover picture though, they could've picked a better one though. She had better pics inside the mag. Here are the links for Tyra when she was on the cover. http://i.cnn.net/si/pr/subs/swimsuit/images/covers/1997.jpg
I hope that this controversy only exists on mediatakeout.com aka Beyonce Hater #1.com - this website is OBSESSED with this girl. And if white readers at SI are complaining why would a black gossip site put it out there, we tearing them down worse than mainstream its sad - like lets stick to tacky weaves and relationship rumors but dont give that kind of shyt substance- is mediatkeout run by racist crkas?
SI made a bad move. The swimsuit issue is for models. They pissed off a lot of people by choosing Beyonce. And then to choose a black singer wearing her mother's poorly designed swimsuits. I don't know what they were thinking. They just lost a lot of readers because they weren't true to the magazine's audience.
I think they have a right to be upset. This issue is nothing different from americans getting upset that most of our jobs have been outsource to contractors within our areas or overseas. People naturally get upset when they feel their livihoods have been threaten. I guess we all live and learn. I think she looks nice. Its Black history month so it was a good choice on SI part
I agree with boomboom. SI should have an athelete or model on the cover. Beyonce is neither. What she is, is overexposed and her daddy probably hustled that deal after they found out Jennifer Hudson was on the cover of Vogue! That cover is supposed to be for the top model, period. Beyonce can be on the cover of any other entertainment, beauty, hip hop magazine, why SI. When I first heard about this it just didn't make sense. I'd be upset too!
People are so flippin' stupid. First of all, Tyra was on the cover of SI TWICE (for those of you who think that there has never been a black broad cover spot on SI) second, Beyonce was NOT voted that sexiest woman alive, that title in fact went to my girl Scarlette Johanssen, third, it should be called the "Ghetto issue" they had Kanye's mutt calling azz featured. Cee Lo's cool. But SI fowled up. Besides, there are so many way more beautiful women than Beyonce who should have gotten the cover spot. All that weave!! "Good lawd!!" Why does so many blacks do that?????
Media Takeeout has perfected the art of be "Beautiful Liars" (pun intended)
I have seen nothing but positive press on the issue. Check your local & national news headlines. Beyonce was named the most desired woman of the year (black, white, yellow or green people voted) 8.5 million times!!!!!
Sports Illustrated stock has just risen & their subscription sales has dramatically increased since the bomb dropped. Beyonce makes money, just like she does enemies.... and who gives 2 shits about the haters when you have so much money to spend? LOL at people who believe the "sensationalizm" that is MEDIA TAKEOUT. This site is a Glorified internet tabloid
blacks would be upset if they saw white faces gracing the covers of essence, ebony, hypehair, and other magizines that are dominated by blacks, so then again i actually understand how some people could feel this way. hey, put out a black sports illustrated im sure ppl will be intrested since blacks are the best athletes.
why r u makin this a color thing....
its not about her being black, its about her being a singer.
and sports illustrated knows whats up. thats fucked up that beyonce is takin the fall for their choice to change it up this year.....but like they say, any publicity is good publicity, see, we all got beyonce and sports illustrateds names in our mouthes!!
good job guys!
First, Tyra Banks has graced the cover of this SI issue numerous times, so stop always thinking it's about race. Maybe some folks don't want to be bombarded with all Black stuff. How would you feel if you went to pick up a VIBE magazine that featured all tons of country singers. Get over the race thing.
wat eva bey suck any way she looks more white then black any way, that aint her hair and she has stretch marks and cellulite so this aint the real bey so wat eva. where is jay? she has no respect for him at all, why show ery man in the world how you look wiff no clothes on and call it a bathingsuit lolololololo
well i think the readers of si, mostly white men are upset over race. i don't get it, ass is ass whether it's white or black. and beyonce is on the cover selling her ass. it is very sad to read the racist comments these men have, very sad.
i do agree with the model point of view though, these models are losing their jobs, but that's not beyonce's fault! she is very famous singer and she looks great in a bikini. beyonce has every right to sing and sell her ass on a cover of si too! there are many issues with models these days, they are tooo skinny! some of these skinny black models that are promoted towards white viewer make me wanna throw up. maybe if these models ate something they wouldn't be losing so much work. america no longer wants to see sickly models posing around looking hungry. and for those racist white men, the hell with ya'll
For the most part I do not think its about race. I agree with the comments that support the idea that Beyonce is a singer and not a model. When a model makes it on to the cover of SI then you know they have made it big. This is what models strive for. BEYONCE IS NOT A MODEL. This reminds me of the argument of actors getting worked up about rappers and singers taking their roles. This is their craft that they work so hard to perfect and to just give the role/cover to some over exposed singer really is a slap in the face. I mean HELLO Tyra did appear on the cover of SI before. I mean really think about it. If you worked so hard to perfect your craft or trade and someone who isnt even in your industry just suddenly is awarded the most desired title or position in your area of expertise how would you feel??
i think ity's messed up!!!!! It shouldn't have anything to do with race. There are other females that have been posing for this mag all year and have been probably waiting for the chane. Then beyonce comes along never been a model and get the spot it's dirty on Sports Illustrated part.
THIS IS SO DUMB AND SAD.THEY ARE JUST HATIN CUZ BLACK FOLKS IS COMIN UP.HOW THEY GOIN BE MAD CUZ ITS A COUPLE OF BLACK PEOPLE IN THE DAMN MAGAZINE AND THEY WANNA CALL IT THE "GHETTO ISSUE".Hell NAH!!HOW DARE THEY CALL IT GHETTO JUST BECAUSE THEY SEE A BLACK PERSON'S FACE.AND WHAT MAKES IT EVEN WORSE IS THAT WHITE PEOPLE ARE COMPLAIN BUT WANNA BE BLACK AND DONT EVEN KNOW IT.THEY WANNA GET BRAIDS WHICH IS SOMETHING THAT CAME FROM US AND THEY ALSO GET TANS WHICH IS DOIN WHAT?MAKIN THEY'RE SKIN DARKER.SHIDD,THEY EVEN PUTTIN TRACKS IN THEY HAIR NOW SO THEY NEED TO KEEP THEY'RE MOUTHS CLOSED BECUZ THEY GET EVERYTHING FROM US..IF IT WASNT FOR USE,THEY'RE WOULDNT BE ANY JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE OR NELLY FURTADO YA KNOW SO YEAH..AND PLUS THOSE WHITE GIRLS DONT EVEN BE LOOKIN LIKE NUTHIN IN S.I.THEY BE FLAT AS A PANCAKE WIT SILICONE IN THEY CHEST SO YEAH..THAS THAT
Im with them on the beyonce thing... She isnt a model at all! and to people who just says its because shes black... think back one of the best selling swimsuit edition was with ______ on the cover... ringing any bells... Tyra banks... and she is black. so take all that bull shit home. About the "ghetto Issue" well thats just retarded. Ogh and everyone knows who kanye is...even if they dont like his crazy ass
Oh. My. Goodness. People stop tripping over this. This may be "hype" Mediatakeout is putting out there to get something going on on these boards. Not quite sure if I believe the validity of these quotes as given to mediatakeout.
For ONE this S.I. issue is a MUSIC SUPPLEMENT (I believe a Grammy issue)...it is NOT the regular S.I. issue.
I can see it from all sides.
First of all, as far as any "men" being upset that they don't know who Beyonce is...All they need to know is she's a pretty girl in a swimsuit. (Tyra Banks is black and she got the cover). SI features a lot of ethnic (exotic) looking women. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Secondly, I can sympathize for the models who have been working their asess off to get a cover-this does seem somewhat unfair to them. I know what it's like to be deserving and get passed over.
And lastly, many of the women on the cover are so skinny, they really don't look as good in their suits as Beyonce.
Detroitblue--I happened to see your comment--and just wanted to make a quick comment in reference to your comment.
No offense--so don't take this personal, but you have a lot to learn when it comes to "beauty" and the model industry.
I say that because you would really be AMAZED at how many of the models you see are not 100% authtic--as you may think. I heard you mention "real hair"--"flawless skin"--it's not about that at all--it's all about angels, bone stucture--how you photograph--how you hold your face--and yes make-up, hair weave, etc.
In fact many, many models wear hair extentions...(Tyra Banks wears as much weave as Beyonce--and she was a SUPERmodel)
I have a friend that models and she looks TOTALLY different in person from her pictures. Models know how to wear makeup to MAKE themselves LOOK natural--don't be deceived.
There are a lot of tricks. Just a little fyi. lol!!!!!!
how they gonna say that the sports illustrator subscribers might get upset because thye might knoe Beyonce, but if it was just a model thye wouldn't know her either so waht's the difference.
they just want to somthing pretty.
This total bull shit it is a racist thing because people are complaing because it's black people are in the magazine but when a white girl is on the cover don't nobody say shit i don't see why models are getting mad if they think they should of been on the cover then they should've stepped it up it's not the magazine fault the beyonce is better than some of these models out there but if they think they the shit they need to step it up they just hating on beyonce im pissed if u like sports illustarated then it shouldn't matter who on the cover if u don't like then don't buy the shit stop fucking hating on beyonce anerxic bithces im through
Ok someone should remind the SI readers that that issue was a musical issue if memory serves me right so the last time I checked none of the models were musicians or singers. I think they are forgetting the theme the magazine chose to go with and please how many times have they had musicians in the issue? None-so please get a grip-the white hangers they like to see will be back the next issue. And as you know too many black people in a white magazine now makes it ghetto. Can you imagine what they thought when Tyra first made the cover? I can hardly believe it's 2007 and it's like we're back in 1962. Just disgusting and sad.
Besides the ghetto thing, nothing about this is racist. The models have a right to have an strong opinion about this. I would be ticked off also but I am sure their are some people (not black) that love that Beyonce is on the cover.
"X-sintric": Many people of different race and ethicnity have skin tones. They don't put tracks in their hair to be black. Who wears braids?
so b/c there are a lot of blk people in the dam mag its the ghetto issue u mf kill me..get a dam life it just a f'ing mag.. be upset about shit at your job or at home not a silly ass swimsuite mag.. stupid mf's
OKAY, PEOLE NEED TO READ THE ARTICLE.. THE MODELS ARE NOT CALLING THE ISSUE GHETTO, ITS THE MESSAGE BOARDS. TWO, THIS IS NOT A RACE ISSUE. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE TRY TO PULL THAT CARD OUT FOR ANY REASON! THE MODELS ARE PISSED BECAUSE THIS CHICK WHO HASNT GONE THROUGH WHAT THEY HAVE TO TRY TO BECOME MODELS BE GIVEN THE COVER JUST BECAUSE SHE IS "BEYONCE" I DONT HATE ON HER THE COVER LOOKS FABULOUS & SHE LOOKS CLASSY, BUT I SEE THEIR POINT. TO THE MODELS THE COVER OF SI IS THEIR GRAMMYS'S..HOW MANY MUSICIANS WOULD APPRECIATE A MODEL GETTING A GRAMMY JUST FOR LIP SYNCING A SONG JUST CUZ SHE/HE WAS PRETTY ?(REMEMBER HOW ARTISTS WERE PISSED AT THE MILLI-VANILLI CHARADE?) NOW AS FOR THE MESSAGE BOARDS YES THAT BORDERS ON RACIST BUT PLEASE UNDERSTAND & SEPARATE THE TWO.. AND I DONT THINK WHITE GIRLS ON A WHOLE ARE JEALOUS BECAUSE THE AVERAGE WHITE WOMAN HATES SKINNY MODELS BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT A REALISTIC REPRESENTATTION OF THE AVERAGE WOMAN PERIOD AND IN CASE YOU HAVENT WATCHED ANY OF THESE MODELING SHOWS (JANICE DICKINSON, ANTM)MODELS ARENT JUST WHITE. THERE ARE PLENTY OF BLACK /BI-RACIAL LATIN MODELS OUT THERE SO PEOPLE GET OFF THE RACE ISSUE..THEYRE JUST PISSED CUZ TEY FELT CHEATED
Yall can justify and live under a rock all that you want to, but reality says that we still live in a racist world. Though some changes are sure to come we have to realize racism is alive in blacks and in whites. I would be upset with my kids if they dated outside of their race, but it would be their choice. Thats just the way that i feel. So you have to understand that even though the situation shouldn't be about race, it revolves around it. Wake Up People!
If ya'll haven't notice, this is the MUSIC EDITION of the magazine. What sense would it make to have a model on the cover of the MUSIC EDITION of a magazine? Of course they're going to pick the hottest female artist out right now to put on the cover and , hate it or love it, it's definitely Beyonce - hands down. It's funny how people have hissy fit over something so small and they don't even take the time to READ ALL FACTS before they start protesting.
I think people are forgetting to separate that there are two different issues here. First of all no one said in the article that the Models are racist. Whether the models have a right to be angry is an entirely separate issue from the group of people popping up on websites and message boards angry about this "Music" issue.
It's not just about Bey being on the cover for these guys who don't want to see her there, it's what she represents to them, especially since Kanye is all posted up with a tall thin and what many would call "beautiful" blonde. Think about it, if these guys are the old white fuddy duddy demographic, imagine how that image must have upset them. Twenty or even ten years ago that image of Kanye would be controversial--the old Black Man/White Woman hangup. (Y'all know what I'm saying).
I've been reading really nasty things on these message boards and they are SEETHING WITH HATEFUL RACIST REMARKS. Yeah, it's a race issue most definitely for those people who don't want her or Kanye or Cee Lo in the mag. It's race and there have been tons of excuses BY THE PEOPLE WHO DO NOT WANT HER ON THE COVER (NOT THE MODELS) as to why she shouldn't be on the cover--oh her hair's fake or she's fat, not a model etc...--but it still comes down to race.
That being said they have a right to complain because they are the demographic buying the magazine. Would you want Jessica Simpson on the cover of Essence? I'm not defending them but I understand their viewpoint. They should have what ever skinny blonde on the cover they want this year.
And also to the people who are saying that we complain about race too much, not one of us wants to sit here and be hung up on race, but we have to face reality.
I KNOW THAT PEOPLE FROM DIFF. RACES HAVE SKIN TONES..WHATS YOUR POINT?THEY STILL TAN TO GET DARKER NUFF SAID..AND I DIDNT SAY THEY PUT TRACKS IN THIER HAIR TO BE BLACK..AND WHAT DO U MEAN "BESIDES THE GHETTO THING,NOTHIN ABOUT THIS IS RACIST"??? ISNT THAT ENUFF? HOW MUCH MORE SHOULD THEY HAVE TO SAY FOR IT TO BE RACIST TO U?
While you people continue to hate on her, she'll contibue to get that money... She's not just attractive, she's stunning. How can anyone with good vision sit there and deny her beauty that came natural.. Before make-up and weaves she was already beautiful... Most of you are probably fat, miserable, ugly ass housewives that cant take the fact this naturally curvy BLACK girl has all of your men lusting and loving her.. And as far as the SI's shit.. Please, Beyonce is more than a singer, more than an actress, more than a proformer, more than a damn shallow ass model, she's a fucking inovator... And she may not be a top model but she is a model for the House of Dereon and has also modeled in some of the top designer's clothing along with Kelly Rowland, so before you low lives critisize her get your fuckin facts straight... It's disturbing how many of you get on here faithfully and only post comments on the fake shit the dish up on Beyonce and it's always something negative... Get a life
I agree with X-sintric..this is clearly a racial issue..and even though I can understand why some models would be upset over this..I can't understand why anyone else would unless it pertains to race..and to call it a ghetto issue I mean come on what other proof do you need to see it as racism..I can't stand it when some black people are so naive to think that racism doesn't exist anymore...
Whatever the issue, race, marketing, whatever. Beyonce' is definitely overexposing herself. I personally think she should fall back. No one is going to forget about her, just leave some distance. I think the demographic who are not necessarily her fan base are feeling Beyonce being shoved down their throats. Hell, I like Beyonce and feel this way at times. And now this, SI is truly not her demographic.
I am all about the Black woman doing your thing but dang pace yourself and us.
On a side note, MTO what did Beyonce' do to you guys so badthat you diss her constantly!?
thiz iz tha dumbest sh*t to date i don't get!! if it's about her being a singer then SO WHAT SI control whoeva they want on their cover so dem lil modelz need to calm down gettin all mad cuz they ain't get picked. And if it's about race them all the white buyers need to calm down too, cuz ain't no point in still being a racist becuz black folk ain't goin nowhere so they might as well get used to it and get off it!!!
ok now i'm not beyonce's biggest fan either, but i was impressed that she made it on the cover. i can also see the models point of view also. some models work their hole career trying to get that cover, and she's a singer and she got it. just like how she thought she would get an oscar. so it's pretty complicated.
BRAVO,BRAVO people on here. LOOK at that majority is suddenly supporting Beyonce. Takes racist bashing to get yall to realise that Beyonce is now one of you... Black. hahaha wow how nice. But stop to think . Who do you think she'll feel worst about? When white people bash her( cause they been having issues centuries aback, check history). Or when her own kind; Blacks bash her? Hmmmm tell me. Stop to think before each of you open your wide a/s/s mouth to chat. And to the disgruntled readers, sports illustrated fans. DO remember tht money is the key of it all. And modeling is not models but advertising. She is in the game. her face sells why not? so please sit your tired, stupid, white-trash, weird-looking, colour, asses down. Yes white people's colour is fcked look at them in the summer and in the winter. THT there is racist for you!!!!!
The SI readers are just mad that some color got added to their favorite issue... IBut I feel where they are coming from... Just imagine if you went to scoop up the new KING magazine and Britney Spears was on the cover and all the articles were about Garth Brooks and Korn... you'd be pizzed off too!
Y people are upset beats me. Sports Illustrated chose Beyonce, Kanye, and Cee-Lo to attract a new market; one that doesn't mind spending money. This is simply a business move and a smart one if you ask me. Beyonce looks damn good on this cover as she always does. I hope she continues to make that money.
A you fucking idiots, how is this not a race issue?? If this was maybe even Fergie, or Gwen Stefani we would not even be here, CONGRATS BEYONCE, and other women of color breaking barriers. Old Cuccka Munga Krackerkillers, get a fucking grip you losers, you fuckin old white hair, limp dick bastards, magazines wacking fucker....... One month without a hand job may save your life, .... And to ALEXIA, I agree, we down each other so much, and hate on the other so much, but when needed we still got your back!!!!! I hope they put Ciarra on there posing with A.I. shirtless self..... The Magazine sucked anyway, this is probably the most publicity it's got in years..
I love Beyonce to death but as a model... I understand why others will be mad to see a Singer taking the spot that a model she be on bad enough Singers/actress or on the covers of so many magazines commericals perm boxes ect. they are taking all of the Models jobs.Just like rappers or taking acters jobs.. But that is just me talkin
I dont see the big deal.If racist people have a problem then WHOOOOOOOOOO CARES!!!!!!!!Perhaps S.I. saved a lot of money by putting beyonce on the front cover then paying millions of dollars to those overpriced primadonnas called supermodels.they look like skinny twigs anyway thats why tyra got out of the business.so she can be nice and curvy like she is suppose to be and not letting white folks telling her how to look.
Some people are so jealous and just hate on Beyonce because they can't acheive the success that Beyonce has. I'm not a big fan of her's but this is a good issue of SI and those racist people who call it the Ghetto issue need to grow up and stop hating!!
Those supermodels are too damn skinny anyway. I hate seeing their boney, no eating asses on covers. That shit is gross. Beyonce looks nice and I know plenty of white guys and they are all more than happy to look at Beyonce on the cover rather that some skinny model who has been starving herself for the past year. yuck!!!
Baby girl Baby girl!
When this chick's time is up [whenever it may be], depression out her ass she will be. She has never been on the back seat. i don't think jennifer hud. will cut beyonce out all the way. i just think she showed beyonce HOW TO ACT.... i think MS. PRETTY-NEW-YOUNGER-SEXY BODY-TALENTED will put beyonce in her place. she wont retire at the age of 30 like she says...people will make her sit the hell down cause of boredom of her....
Poor B. This is exactly what happens when you are overexposed, the public get pretty much annoyed with looking at you. I can understand on the models point where they would be upset. So many magazines are using hollywood instead of models to sell their issues. Unfortunately SI made a mistake by using an overexposed one.
I am amazed at the level of ignorance on this discussion board. I do not think this is a complicated concept to grasp. BEYONCE IS NOT A MODEL!!! THIS IS A MODEL MAGAZINE!!!!!! TYRA BANKS HAS GRACED THE COVER OF BEFORE. Secondly look at the DEMOGRAPHICS of the magazine. Someone mention something about a white celebrity being featured on Essence that person was right on point. Imagine if they were to put Faith Hill on the cover. Yeah they should feature Faith HIll on the cover of Essence. The message boards will probably be like.. " Uh-uh NO they didnt. Out of all the hard working black women in America they gonna put her on."
If Beyonce can get the cover of SI because she looks as good as or better than some of these models then that simply means that the models need to step up they game and shut the fudge up and stop whinin and maybe next year they can get on the cover of sports illustrated.
Actually tho, when i think about it, i really dont think she should have been on the cover seeing as how she aint a legit model. Tyra i can understand, but not Bee, altho i do think the readers are being a tad racist.
WHAT INSANITY! On behalf of Beyonce', I'll take the liberty in saying "FUCK ALL WHO WISH ME LESS THAN BLESSED!" I enjoy Beyonce as an artist. That's what she is. Listen to her music or don't. Feel the way you do. Why spend energy publicly being negative to a woman who works for what she gets? It's easy to run your mouth and your fingers. Get a life. A career. Hell, even a job. It has been only a few years since Americans refused to allow Coloreds to prosper and to grow and share their talents and have their influences respected. What impact does your life make? Why can't Beyonce and Jennifer and anyone else, all at the same time, provide the world the gift of their talent without savages publicly spewing venom? Turn the tv and the radio, don't buy the music. If you don't have shit worth hearing to say, SHUT THE FUCK UP!
It is amazing that the models are getting mad when this is a special edition music issue. and although I do believe Beyonce is overexposed she will sell the heck out of something. The models need to eat and this too will blow over.
IT'S THE SAME THING AS WHEN "ASK MEN" DID A SURVEY OF WHO THEY MOST WANT TO HAVE AS THEIR WOMAN AND BEYONCE WON WITH A HIGH PERCENTAGE OF VOTES. YOU SHOULD HAVE READ THE COMMENTS THOSE CRACKERS B'S WERE MAKING ABOUT B. THEY EVEN WENT SO FAR AS TO SAY THEY WERE GOING TO BOYCOTT "ASK MEN" AND NEVER READ OR SUBSCRIBE TO THE MAGAZINE AGAIN. THEY THINK THAT NO BLACK WOMAN SHOULD EVER BE CHOSEN OVER THE LIKES OF ANGELINA, SCARLETT AND THE LIKE. JEALOUS HOS
I can understand where the model's point of view is coming from then again..there isnt really many "Top Models" with exception to the Victoria Secret models. But people need to understand the society we live in and like many of the posts have stated, its all about selling mags and making money, and im sure many people who have never bought an issue has bought one with Beyonce on the cover. Anyways...am I the only one tired of preteens and slow bus riders posting ignorant comments? Can anyone speak without an "expletive" running thru the comments..Do Better Kids and Stay in school..Learn more words..lol
What is all of the HOOPLAH over...this cover is not for the famed SWIM SUIT ISSUE. This is the Music Edition of SI. A simple one time edition. So it's safe to say that the spots so coveted by the coke induced, 1/2 of an almond eating typical runway sashe~ whore is safe. Fall back bitches...and damnit eat something !
ppl r mad beyonce is on da cover because she relly has black features
i mean when tyra was on the cover no1 cared cuz she was skinny n small
just like all da other models
but beyonce is a curvy women n thats wat makes models mad cuz she is helpin bring curvy women into style.....
First of all--I don't think this has ANYTHING to do with the fact that she is Black and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that she is not a frekin MODEL! For all of the models who've actually taen the time to perfect their craft--its like they are being shytted on.
It the EXACT same thing when these rap artists and R+B artists are being put in movies--JUST to boost sales (cuz NONE of their azzes are really bringing any GREAT acting skills to the movie)and leave people who actually went to SCHOOL and STUDIED THEATRE!!! Why should these music artists be able to takeover other industries without paying their dues as well?!
I don't believe this is true. Beyonce has been on the covers of countless fashion and music-oriented magazines and i've never heard of any model backlash or complaints before. Likewise, as many blacks as there have been featured in Sports Illustrated before, i can't believe that there are men(white or othewise) who would complain about such an issue or about a beautiful, half-naked, "white-looking" black woman being on the cover. I feel like this is something that MediaTakeout has cooked up just to have something to write.
Some Sports Illustrated readers are also upset with the new issue. But these readers aren't just upset with Beyonce - they're upset with the number of Black artists featured in the magazine. The new issue is being referred to on sports message boards as the "Ghetto issue."
this story his everything 2 do with color
it says so right there
shoot me if I am wrong but beyonce is a model. she has a modeling contract with loreal, she models for the house of dereon. there is no dispute there. so when idiots call and complain she isnt a model they are hating on the girl
let me tell you something jazzy903 u must be slow or stupid i did not say it was ghetto b/c it had a lot of blk people in it..I SAID " so what are the readers that are so upset tring to say? are they tring to say it is a ghetto issue b/c it has a lot of blk people?" thats what i said just not in so many words.. i thought the people who read this or at lease comment are adults and could comprehend it was a rhetorical question!! i dont need u to define ghetto for me or comment on my f'ing thought!! now have a great day
they jus mad cuz the media is startin to love black people thats all...black is beautiful baby...they need 2 quit bein ignorant and stop actin like Sports Illustrated is only givin 1 magazine every 5 yrs...they should kno that a skinny white bitch is gon b there again soon...lol
mediatakeout make this shyt up. If you were watching the slam dunk competition at the NBA all star game you would have heard Ernie Johnson, Magic, Charles Barkley and Kenny saying its the best selling SI swimsuit issue e
Who the f**k cares if these Bi****s are mad. Do they honestly believe that only the ugly anorexic models should be featured on the cover? If you ask me, these mofos are being a tad bit racist because i'm pretty sure that it's a bunch of white people pissed off that a voluptuous black woman, who is representing for the black women, is gracing the cover...not them old bony scraggly ass white girls they have on there all the time with butt implants, boob jobs, botox injections, and enough random plastic surgery to start their own Barbie line....PLEASE!!! Beyonce is about as real as they come physically and these h*es can't take it. Dumb a*s people need to check themselves. BEE, I SAY DO YA THING MA AND LIKE YOUR BOO SAY, BRUSH THAT DIRT OFF YOUR SHOULDERS. THESE HEFFAS JUST MAD CAUSE YOU WORTH MORE THAN THEY CAN IMAGINE IN ONE BLINK OF AN EYE AND YOU GOT MORE GOING FOR YOU. Boy I swear, white people can't stand to see a powerful black person, let alone black woman, in the limelight. GET THAT TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does this all really matter? If those "white" SI customers are that upset about the "Music Issue" just because a few black celeb's are featured in it then their dumb a**'s do not have to buy it. And for those models that are upset about her being on the cover -- they just need to "up their game" and stop hatin' on Bee. H*ll can their a**'s sing and look good enough to be on the cover of the "music issue"? PROBABLY NOT!
POOR POOR BLACK FOLKS. ARE WE NOT ONLY DEFEATED, BUT CONFUSED AND OUT OF TOUCH AS WELL?
THESE PEOPLE HATE US. MOST OF THEM FIND US ENTERTAINING, BUT THEY HATE YOU BECAUSE THEY CANNOT BE YOU. THEY ENVY OUR CREATIVITY, OUR LOOKS, OUR WOMEN, OUR SKIN, OUR SPEAK, OUR HISTORY (NOT COUNTING SLAVERY) AND WANT US TO GO AWAY AND LEAVE OUR CREATIVITY AT THE DOOR.
STOP LOOKING FOR THESE FOLKS TO CHANGE. BLACK PEOPLE DONT PUT UP WITH SHIT FROM EACHOTHER, BUT ARE STILL PATIENTLY WAITING FOR THESE PEOPLE TO CHANGE.
The only issue here, that has been stated over and over again, is that Beyonce is black and on the cover. And really, I don't see why there is such a problem....she has light skin and European looks! They air brush her to death all the time. Hell, she looks white! What are white folks complaining about? They didn't put a dark sister with distinct African features on the cover. What is the big deal?
Exactly, I would really hate to be her perfect and still not accepted. People stay hatin on my chick!!! Envy is a mutha!!! Don't get scared white america!! White men been lovin dark meat. Hello biracial babies started in slavery!!
WHAT THE HELL THEY MEAN "GHETTO ISSUE" F*UCK THIS! F*UCK SPORTS ILLUSTRATED , AND I HOPE ANOTHER BLACK, SMART, MOTIVATED, TALENTED ACTRESS/SINGER/WHATEVER GET ANOTHER COVER ON SPORTS ILLUSTRATED. B*ITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO BEYONCE', GO BEYONCE'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Black ppl put weaves in their bcuz we chose to. All black ppl aren't ball headed!!!.QUESTION,Why do white ppl get butt implants n breast implants? Everywhere you look white chicks got ""A$$"",Now you kno you aint never seen this many white gurls with ""A$$es"" It's become a trend for white gurls!!!! Is it because they envy us black women with curvaceous bodies? Are white women trying to steal our unique body images? And this is a race issue. They madd black ppl on tha raise!!!! ** just for tha record,This is a music editon for sports illustrated, B is tha hottest thing moving n thats real talk cuz i'm no fan , but you have to respect it!!! Dont get madd haters get money!!!
Ha Ha! Now you can see who the n*@@as are. Such ignorance & hate..thanks for boosting albums sales & our confidence! People think that because we're in the year 2007 that there are less racists?? It's great to hear stories like this one! It's reality.
Well firdt of all I going to go out and buy an issue, now just because those fake azz model's are mad. Frankliy I'm glad to see a black woman's face on that cover and I'm really glad they decided to put someone on the cover like Beyonce. She got hip's and asssssssss w/legs to match, that's so much better than the tall white women w/their falt asses while showin off their rib cages and we can't forget to mention the flat chest to match their asses. LMAO
It is a race issue if people are calling it the Ghetto issue because they have black singer on the cover and stories about rappers in it. I do not like Beyonce like that but she looks good and I do not see a problem with her being on the cover.Stop the hate white people !!!!!
GHETTO ISSUE..NOW THAT IS DEFINITELY SOME RACST ASS S**T..I MEAN..NOBODY SAID THAT DUMB S**T BUT SOME OLD ASS WHITE MAN WHO CANT BEAT HIS D**K BECAUSE A BLACK PERSON IS ON THE COVER..I MEAN THIS IS A NEW DAY AND WE ARE EVERYWYHERE NOW..SO GET WIT IT OR DONT READ THE MAGAZINE...MAN THAT S**T JUST PISSED ME OFF 4 REAL...!
ive been a loyal sports illustrated subscriber for over 20 years,i think having beyonce on the cover was great,if the models were offended they shouldn't be because the last time i checked it was a "swimsuit issue" that has and does use model's whoever said earlier that it should go to the top model is full of shit.i pay may money to see beauty not who the top model is on the cover.and why is it causing such a backlash beause african american males and females are potrayed in this magazine all the time,so you tell that person thats "bitching about nothing i've been paying for sports illustrated a long time to stop putting those no shape having mf's on the cover.holla back
Let's just be real bout it, a model is nothing more than a beautiful woman with confidence. Beyonce though she isn't a model looks better then 95% of the women on the planet let alone the sickly looking stick figures they call models. Don't nobody wanna keep seeing them Olive Oil shaped bitches, thats ugly.
What racist Bull$hit! As far as I'm concerned, Beyonce can model as good as or better than some of the top models in the world. Have u seen her pictures. This is also the music issue, not the regular issue. Let these people get their props. This is such bull!
This is so 'effing' stupid. The theme for this year is MUSIC! So it only makes sense to post the sexiest music artist on the cover. Hell I bet if it was Christina Aguilera it wouldn't be a prob...am I right or wrong? But right now Beyonce is on top of the game and she fine as hell so they made a wise decision. Now they saying some readers are mad cause they don't know who Beyonce or Kanye is? What about these skinny ass models. I don't know who half of these bitches r but do you think I care? ANDDDD the issue features different types of music, not just hip hop. Honkies just mad cause blk is the new white...HA!
WONDER WHO REALLY COMPLAINED? It's a known fact that white men secretly crave and love black women. How you think so many of use ended up very fair-skinned? Cause the white men were dippin' with the help, probably forceably!
All this back-and-forth about Beyonce' being on the cover is a useless waste of your time. It doesn't change a thing, and she's still gettin' paid, as she should, because as I've said time and again, HER TIME WILL RUN OUT, when the phone will stop ringing, so she may as well get what she can, while she can.
What's truly sad if the story holds true is the number of blacks who would actually say it's not about race and that it has more to do with her not being a model. In America 99% of the time it is about skin color and race and for the non enlightened brothas and sistas wake up already. Beyonce is beautiful talented singer, and a black woman that makes me very proud. When is Diddy, Oprah, Sam Jackson etc. the n word?, when they leave the room! The more things change the more they remain the same.
This is bull crap i mean so what if she is on the cover. Beyonce is starting to make a good name for herself, and for them to consider this issue as a "ghetto Issue" just goes to show you that there are still plenty of racist people in the world. It is Sports illustrated magazine last time i checked. They can put whoever on there and the people who don't like it can F**k off.
i know for a fact that mediatakeout is lying their ass out. the day that the magazine came out, it was sold out in new york city. guys was line up and could not get it no matter where their when. that same afternoon the ppl was talking about it on the radio and i am a black model so i am very happy that she is there. beyonce ......gilr do your thing.
Im not a big Beyonce' fan myself but damn this is just stupid. It's the same ol' story. I guess it's ok for whites to take the likes of our music, style and speech but oh now when we do something like grace the cover of SI magazine, it's so serious that its blasphamy! WTF ever white america. They can all kiss Beyonce's big black *ss and every other person of color in the new SI issue.
Most of you commenting here are very ignorant to the real modeling industry. King Magazine, Black Men Magazine, etc. Those are not real models. Most of those girls will never see a real agency in their life. I am a Black female myself, and I feel that Beyonce getting the cover of SI is an outrage and a disgrace to the "real modeling world!" I like her as a singer/entertainer, but she is not a model! Many models have sadly died trying to keep up with the real modeling life. There were many other choices for a real Black model to be on the cover. This is not a race thing because of Black History Month as I read in one's comments, because you all buy into the bullcrap every February, when we are Black all year around!!! Brothers and Sister's, get off of it! Get real!
Oh boo fucking hoo! What the hell is the big deal? Nobody says anything when singers, rappers and other NON-MODELS walk down fashion show runways to help promote a designer; this is ridiculous. It's time they had someone different on the cover anyway; they use same damn models every year with at least 1 or 2 new faces but it isn't like we know who all those bitches are anyway!
Just because she didn't professionally pursue modeling as her first career choice doesn't mean that she isn't one now. She's obviously very good at modeling. But I can somewhat understand that the model's frustration. They feel like their hard work is in vain. As far as race, suck that shit up. There's plenty of other races (predominantaly white) that graces the cover.
SI, I am very displeased that you chose Beyonce Knowles for the cover of the coveted swimsuit issue!
I know alot of people are saying it's racist, but I disagree. I am an African American woman and commend SI for putting another African American Female on the cover, however, I think it is a SLAP in the face to all those hardworking models fighting for this cover. Rather Black, White, Asian or Hispanic, SI Swimsuit Issues ALWAYS went to a MODEL! When did Beyonce become a model? Would it be fair for her to allow models to win a Grammy? I think this is very poor choice for SI and you should offer an apology to your faithful readers. My husband has been a subscriber for years and canceled his subscription because of this.
SHAME on you SI!!!
I would have to agree with the models..I don't think it's fair that a singer can take a models position just like a model can't take a singers position.. the models worked hard as modeling like she a "singer" sang her a** off to be who she is.. and everyone who is making this into a racist issue needs to really look at this from a models perspective.. the modeling world is very harsh and to make your way thru it and to see a SINGER on the cover of something you sshould be on..can really crush ur heart..
There have been two non models on prior covers of si...All this bs about "the cover should only go to models" is nonsense...95% of the models look like they smoke meth or crack!!! I for one am glad that they chose a REAL WOMAN to grace the cover...
I think there is an element of racism in the reaction by white SI readers. The labeling of the issue as "ghetto" basically says it all. Having said that, I do not like Beyonce. She has minimal talent. Her body was not swimsuit ready and she has an EGO that is the size of this world. She is not very kind to other performers or her dancers. AND according to rumors, she has questionable hygiene-bad breath, body odor.
I think Rhianna, Cassie, Paula Patton and others would have been a GREAT choice. And when a man sees a truly beautiful, in shape woman-they quickly forget race. Beyonce just was the wrong choice. Just my opinion.
I am not a big beyonce fan but I can understand what the models are saying. Most supermodels careers have flourished from being in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition. Now from my understanding this particular issue this year is based on musicians so I can understand why she is on the cover other than that if it was the regular issue and she was on there and I was a model I would be pissed off also.
I DONT THINK THE COVER IS UGLY OR ANYTHING, BUT THE REASON I THINK BEYONCE DID IT IS TO GET ATTENTION. BEFORE DREAM GIRLS BEYONCE WAS ON A VERY HIGH HORSE IN ACTING AND SINGING, BUT NOW IT SEEMS AS IF SHE'S FALLING OFF SLOWLOY. NOW DONT GET ME WRONG THE GIRL IS STILL THE SHIT, BUT SHE IS NOT GETTING THE ATTENTION SHE THINKS SHE PROBABLY DESERVES FROM DREAM GIRLS, SO SHE'S TRYING TO GET ATTENTION ANYWHERE NECCESSARY. I NEVER THOUGHT SHE WOULD POSE FOR A MAGAZINE LIKE THIS BUT SHE IS DESPERATELY TRYING TO TAKE THE LIME LIGHT FROM JENNIFER HUDSON, AND IF Y0U CANT SEE THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG. BEE YOU ARE VERY TALENTED AND PRETTY BUT YOU CANT BE ON TOP FOREVER, SO GET USED TO TAKING THE BACK SEAT, EVERY MUSICAL HAD TO DO SO AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER, YOU AINT NO DIFFERENT.
why FUCK BITCHES ARE ALWAY HATING ON MY GIRL BEYONCE. THEY DID WANT HER 2 WHEN A GOLDEN GOLBE THEN IT'S THE OSCARS NOW SHE CANT MAKE HISTORY FOR BEENING THE FIRST NON-MODEL 2 BE ON THE S.I, THAT FUCK U. THEM SKINNY ASS MODEL NEED 2 FUCKING EAT FIRST FO THEY GET ON MY GIRL BEYONCE. I LOVE HER SO LET MAKE THAT MONEY HONEY
OH NO YAL BLACK FOLKS DIDNT COME AND GET IN OUR MAGAZINE.
I HAVENT EATEN IN TWO YEARS HOPING I WAS GOOD ENUFF 4 THAT COVER.
AND THAT BLACK CHICK LOSES A FEW POUNDS AND MAKE A MOVIE NOW SHE GOT MY SPOT?
I DONT UNDERSTAND YAL GOT EVERYTHING NOW YAL WANT OUR MAGAZINE GO BACK 2 THE SOURCE OR JET OR THAT WEAVE MAGAZINE YAL GOT
THE FINE BLACK MEN
ALL THE BEAUTY SHOPS
AND NOW YAL WANT THIS I CAN TAKE THIS WORLD
everyone kept saying that the models are hard workers....i want to know when sucking a lot of di@k consider hard working. my father works for ecko, he does a lots of the casting calls all over the world and trust me a know a lot of female models does works their way to the top. an other thing when u are a singer part of yoour job is modeling. that why it starts out with a com-card. come on people surport your people, because trust me their is still a lot of black models that is told to lose your butt and other things that makes you black. i say do your thing
I think whoever is upset about her being on the cover needs to get over it. She is a singer, model, actress. I know how a lot of you guys feel about Beyonce and yes. I am just sick of seeing her too. She has that same old look that is played and been played out but some of you are a little toooo hard on her. All be needs is a new hair style and everyone would love her again. LOL! Anyway, you can't blame faithful readers of sport Illustrated to be up set about an issue dedicated to music. I.E. the name SPORTS ILLUSTRATED. I would be pissed too. If I want to read about music I'll buy vibe!
Welcome to the 21st Century SI Readers! I'm not a big fan of B's because she's everywhere. You get burned out on the same face over and over. The whining from SI "subscribers" is typical. Don't be scared of change.
whoever's callin in & complaining that they dont know who bey or kanye is must be living under a f**kin rock! racist bastards! they'd rather see a skinny, shapeless white chick than a gorgeous ethnic woman. f**k Sports Illustrated.
WELL HELLO EVERYONE,SORRY TO INFORM YOU THAT I SAY FUCK ALL OF THEM BITCHES,BEYONCE,RIHANNA,CHRISTINA,EVA LONGARIA,ETC.DO YOU STUPID BITCHES EVEN KNOW WHAT BEAUTY IS.APPARENTLY NOT CAUSE IT CAN,T BE BOUGHT,FIXED,TAKEN OUT,MAKEUP,ETC.IF YOU MOTHER FUCKERS SAW HALF OF THIS WHORES IN YOUR CITY THEY WOULD BE THE AVERAGE BITCH.THEY DO NOT EVEN LOOK BETTER THAN HALF THE BITCHES ON THIS SITE.JUST WHORES WITH BIGGER BANK ACCOUNTS THEY STILL HUMAN.ASK YOUR FAVORITE ARTIST,ACTRESS,TO BE PHOTOED WITHOUT MAKE UP,YOU WILL NOT WANT HALF OF THEM GUARANTEED.AS FOR SI,FUCK THEM TO SHE HAS BEEN ON PLENTY COVERS NOT THE FIRST,NOT THE LAST.BUT YOU GIRLS NEED TO GET OF HER PUSSY LIKE YOU FUCKING HER,TAKING UP FOR HER LIKE YOU KNOW THE BITCH.GIRL SEE YOU WHORES SHE WANT EVEN LOOK TWICE UNLESS THE CAMERAS ROLLING.SO YOUR SUPPORTING SOMEONE,S LIFESTYLE WHO FEEL AS THOUGH YOUR BENEATH THEM OR WHO REALLY CARES LESS.SO GROW UP IT,S BUSINESS NEVER PERSONAL.SO WHEN I BUY A BOOTLEG CD IT,S BUSINESS NOT PERSONAL.HA!HA!HA!HA!HA
first of all, it's a pointless issue, everytime something good happens for the black or african american ethnic group, theres a probelem, in the words of Mr. Rodney King "CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG?" This is 2007 and if people can't appreciate change then they need to build a bridge and get over it!
TruVaLady... that was good!!
But seriously, these white folks ain't sayin' nothin' that I don't already know. We've come far, people, but not that damn far where I can trust them as far as I can see them. Did ya'll hear how the KKK is on the come-up?! Now I know they want their 'Stone Mountain' back. That's the place in GA where all the black people who move there from other places think is the place to be. Please. They can have Stone Mountain back as far as I'm concerned. Oh. I'm sorry. Did I go off track again. Anyway, white folks don't want Beyounce on the cover because their main audience is, well... white. Now we can accept JT and Christina Aguilera being on the cover of Vibe and The Source (RIP) Magazine. But white folks just plain don't like us. The sooner we accept that the better off we'll be!
F DAT!!! The reason they picked beyonce to be on the cover this year is to let these skinny white bitches know that they cant continue to look like death and get away with it. The modeling game is about to change for the better. And Beyonce represents what a real woman should look like on the cover of a magazine. These white broads better step they game up and eat some got damn food!!
i dont understand how this became a race thing, the point is shes not a model! how many black models were dying for that cover? you guys are fucking ridiculous. we cant change racism if people are constantly turning every little thing INTO racism.
Well it was the music in sports issue so it was kind of relative for her or some other artist to be on the cover. So, If anyone has a problem, it would seem that race would have come into play. Except for this instance.. so yeah you are probably right. I mean Tyra did make the cover twice.
This is to all the people who still insist it is not a race issue...why the word 'ghetto' in reference to the black artists featured in the magazine? Why, also, are you ignoring the blatantly racist comments of the white subscribers? It's there in Black and White for you to read...
The models and their supporters who are upset...why have none of you even addressed the fact that this was a special issue dedicated to music? Why is it a hard concept to grasp? This was a special edition that just chose NOT to go with a model this time.
If you really want to get technical...what does a model have to do with sports? Shouldn't they feature actual female athletes in bathing suits for the swimsuit issue? They could say the same as far as you wrongfully entering into their craft too....
So would you all be okay if Danika Patrick the white race car driver or if Paris Hilton was on the cover of Essence Ebony or Jet magazine. Yeah i thought so!!!! "Let's keep it real please" No tryin to be politically correct....
I think MTO removed my first comment. It was a good one too!(Dang!!) I'll try it again. All I said was in 97 when Tyra was featured by herself, it was drama. "White Men Can Jump" Essence is geared towards Black women, Sports Illustrated is geared towards people who love sports. Just like VIBE and Rolling Stone is geared at people who like all types of music and that's why all races and musical styles grace the cover. I didn't know that only white people were supposed to subscribe to SI. Afterall, sports, just like music is integrated. Now if you can direct me to a Black only Sports magazine, I'll gladly tell my Black boyfriend to unsubscribe to SI. They are being racist. Get over it AmeriKKKa, Black people are here to stay.
OK...I don't think it's a race thing per se. If you look at this realistically without using the "race trump card", Sports Illustrated swimsuit is DEDICATED to the TOP MODEL of the year amongst competing modeling agencies. Beyonce is NOT a model, and therefore should not be on the cover. It's always been models, but her daddy muscled in on SI to stroke her broken ego - cause she didn't get to be on Vogue. (Which broke her money-grubbing heart, cause she's been wanting it, and riding their jock for years; big ups to Jennifer Hudson!!)
No no no "yaa theory" SI is dedicated to SPORTS and they had a MUSICIAN!!!!on the cover...So sports people don't want to see artists on the cover. SO answere the fu$^ing question unless you can't b/c we already know what the answere will be. WHat would you say if there was a hip hop soul singing issue of essence and of all the possible winners CHRISTINA AGUERALERA won and graced the cover...You all would be pissed.. You don't want any Christina, no Paris, or no other white person on the cover...Oh hell if Paris made the cover of some fashion issue of ebony it would be a RAP and you know it..
How ignorant is this. Barack Obama is running for President of the United States and all any of you can do is talk about Beyonce. It's expected, white people don't expect us to do anything other than occupy our time with trival garbage, while the real issues are ignored. We need to focus on why our children cannot get decent educational opportunities. Law enforcement abuses, housing, medical care, violence, gangs, poverty, etc. There should be more of these types of discussions on this site. MTO, must be owned by white people, because they never promote any real issues for blacks. They continue to treat us like children, and we continue to make them correct. Who the hell cares what Beyonce is doing. Look to what is important to your lives, and believe me its not Beyonce.
Okay "White Men CanNOT Jump", I don't usually do this, but I'll make an exception since Ignorance has definitely sprung from your mind to your keystrokes.
You and I both agree tha SI is geared towards people who love sports, right? What does that have to do with swimsuit models? Modeling is not a sport!!! It was in fact you who posted the question about white women being on the cover of "Black" magazines. SI is not a "white" magazine. It is for all people who love sports.
I should have known I was responding to an idiot based on all of your grammatical errors, but I challenged you anyway. But to answer your questions, Christina wouldn't win a Hip Hop or Soul cover on any Black magazine, cuz she represents neither. She can sing, but she's not Soul Music. And Paris Hilton wouldn't win a fashion cover on Ebony, because she's trashy. Plus like I said before, these magazines are geared towards "Black readers". Just like with Vogue, I don't care if I never, I mean never see a Black face on the cover of it, "it's geared towards wealthy white women." SI is geared towards sports readers from all walks of races. SI is the one who started putting non-athletes on the cover, so why be upset when they put a Black singer on the cover? If it were Jennifer Anniston on the cover, white models would not have tripped. Get over it. She's on there and they can't take it back. Need I remind you, it wasn't the readers who were upset that Beyonce was on the cover, it was the "white" models.
Oh, your question in your original post was "So would you all be okay if Danika Patrick the white race car driver or if Paris Hilton was on the cover of Essence Ebony or Jet magazine."
I answered that question. SI is not geared towards just white people, it's geared towards people who love sports. Now like I said, if you find me a Blackletes Magazine, I'll have my man to cancel his subscription to SI. Increase the Peace!!!
P.S. you know doggone well the gripe is not the fact that Beyonce is a musician. It's all about her being Black. Tyra Banks is a model and in 1997 when she got the cover by herself, "white" models and "white" media dogged her. And you can google that info.
I don't think Beyonce is being hated on, Ithink she's getting what she decerves. She atking up the whole screen from movies to singing and now this. The cover of S.I. She has no right being there, and it's not a rasism thing b/c ive seen black supermodels in there, they look way badder and better the her. That's why their mad, that's like giving a pretty cat a dog show award. They are not in the same category. She's taking from others and she didn't even work forit. I know models who have worked out the whole year to be on the cover and in the mag. and here comes beyonce. me personally say "To the Left To the Left Beyonce, give someone else a chance cuz your not all that, ohhhh to the left to the left."
Like i said "yaa_theory" you can't answere the question. So i'll answere it for you. Yes you all would definately be pi$$ed if Paris or Danika made the cover of Ebony. You can call Christina a non-soul singer if you want...you can call Paris trashy with no fashion if you want...fact still remains that you would be pi$$ed if they made the cover of Ebony. Hell some whites may think beyonce is a terrible artist.. Point is if Paris made the cover of a fashion edition of Ebony you would be outraged, not b/c you think she is trashy and not b/c you don't think Christina is a soul singer but b/c THEY ARE BOTH WHITE and that is the bottom line...CASE CLOSED.
P.s. not surprised by the name calling, I wouldn't expect anything less.
IT IS THE ANNUAL SWIMSUIT ISSUE DEDICATED TO MUSIC....BEYONCE WAS A PERFECT CHOICE! I THINK MEDIA TAKE OUT MADE THIS CRAP UP CAUSE CNN SAID THAT THIS IS THE FASEST SELLING ISSUE IN YEARS! GO BEE! SO DON"T READ INTO THE STORY BY THIS SITE..THEY CLEARLY HATE ON BEE BUT EVERYONE ELSE LOVES HER! THE MAGAZINE PHOTOS ARE HOTT AND THEY PICKED A GREAT GIRL....IT WASN"T ABOUT HTE MODELS....THEY WANT TO SELL MAGAZINES!
Whitemencanjump...why do you refuse to address yaa_theory concerning whether sports illustrated is supposed to be a WHITE ONLY SPORTS MAGAZINE?!?!?!? Is it because you would have to admit that You are comparing apples and oranges and you know it.
EBONY & ESSENCE are women's magazines that cater to BLACK WOMEN! VANITY FAIR & ELLE are women's magazines that cater to WHITE WOMEN. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED is a sports magazine catering to ALL MEN! DUH!
It seems like some of you are insinuating that SI is for w. males or something...soooo if that is the case can I ask all you white males who are pissed about a BLACK WOMAN being on the cover of SI a question? Why aren't you pissed about all the BLACK MEN who are all over the magazine the rest of the year??
I don't deny that SI is an all mens mag. And for the record I love "B" as well as her cover. I mean not to digress, but the most hate that i have ever seen thrown at "B" was on THIS website which still fascinates me....But that's another issue. My issue is making one such as yourself acknowledge the hypocracy, which you as well as everyone else i've addressed has yet to do. WHICH IS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU WOULD BE PI$$ED IF A WHITE WOMAN GRACED THE COVER OF EBONY OR ESSENCE!!!!! I DON'T CARE IF IT CATERS TO BLACK BLUE OR F@CKIN GREEN PEOPLE. REVERSE EXCLUSION OF ANY RACE BASED ON COLOR SHOULD NOT BE CONDONED!!!!! But the way everyone dances around my question just further solidifies my point. So thank you.
Whitemen, this just further proves my point that you come on this site to 'figure' us out. lmao....that is sooo cute!! Do you really think that the people on this site have problems with answering a legit question? C'mon...how long have you been on here?
YOUR QUESTION IS NOT LEGIT and DOES NOT DESERVE A LEGIT ANSWER! Anyone with half a brain cell knows that a magazine geared toward a certain demographic will cater to that demographic in any way shape or form..so why oh why would we be happy if Paris Hilton were featured in Essence? THE ANSWER IS OBVIOUS, BUT the point is it has NOTHING to do with the subject at hand BECAUSE SPORTS ILLUSTRATED WAS NEVER SLATED AS A MAGAZINE FOR WHITES ONLY!
Nice try at goading us though..lmao.
BTW, your lack of knowledge concerning Black people is why you are so 'confused' about SOME Black people's reaction to Beyonce. I mean do you really believe that just because we are ALL Black that we automatically love everything that ALL Blacks do?? I guess different opinions about different people are only for whites????
lol!!!! you got nice moves keep on dancing.... Hey I just state the obvious...When a model says B doesn't deserve the issue you call it racism. If someone calls it the ghetto issue you call it racism. While you all sit on this web and call B's mother tacky, each other ghetto, this man Gay, that man Gay,.. please.... p.s. Oh I guess now we got white only and black only mags again..must be the 50's. Don't kid yourself anyone with half a brain would know that seeing Paris on the cover pi$$ing everyone off has much more to do with race than demographic....LMAO
No no...I believe most people are addressing the issue correctly.
The models are hating because they are models and covet that issue all year round for a jump in their career. That is a battle btwn entertainers...
The issue of the white subscribers who are calling the issue the GHETTO ISSUE is where the racism lies. I see YOU have danced around that as well (not answering if SI is a WHITE male only magazine or not). Yes babes, the same way YOUR PRECIOUS WHITE PEOPLE REFER TO EACH OTHER AS WHITE TRASH AND CALL BRITNEY SPEARS A TACKY HOE, we Blacks do that as well. GAAAAASSSSPPPP!!!
ps-as a white male I don't really expect you to recognize racism...after all you probably rarely have to deal with it. THAT is why you didn't even know that there were white and black magazines. You can sugarcoat it all you want, there are just magazines that are GEARED TOWARDS WHITE, HISPANIC, ASIAN, BLACK etc...and you know it. Your attempt at displaying reverse racism should have been more studied. BTW, RACE IS A DEMOGRAPHIC (you know like age, sex, and sexual orientation)! Again, nice try....
I should say "RACISM" not race... which yeah, is not a demographic...
<NEXT> Anyway,"I don't deny that SI is an all mens mag. And for the record......." yeah that was my statement about three or four posts back so I think I did acknowledge SI as not a white only mag....
<Next> The only diff is that when black people call Brittany trailor trash etc etc. white people don't run and yell "racism racism racism" like the building is on fire.
<NEXT> You are openly saying you don't want Paris b/c of racism... You know the whole BLACK ONLY mag thing. The only problem is that if Halle, J-lo, or Angella Bassett graced vogue and you were on the outside listening in to a white person speaking your views about vogue being white only, demographic this, i have a right to be pi$$ed that.... You would be screaming what? "house on fire house on fire" excuse me, i mean "racism racism"
<next> what no more pointless points to expose?
p.s. still like those moves
Sweetie...there have been NUMEROUS white people (yourself now included, please read above! lmao) who come here just so they can SCREEEEAM racism!!!! I have had repeated run ins with them!
I mean isn't it your point that WE as BLACKS are racist against you as WHITES because we don't want to see Paris Hilton on the cover of essence? but wait...you said whites don't run and yell racism...is it because you are slowly walking and yelling it that it makes a difference? lmao...How can you contradict yourself in the same reply?
I can only speak for myself as a Black woman...ahem FVCK VOGUE! I could care less if they NEVER put another Black face on their magazine again. Why should I care? If I want to see what's hot AND see Black faces I can just pick up Essence or Ebony! That is the reason the mags were started in the first place...or did you forget that?
If you don't like to hear us voice opinions (since that is a white only right??) then why don't you just moseeeey on over to perezhilton.com? They have PLENTY of WHITE ON WHITE BASHING GOING ON OVER THERE that I am suuuure you'd love to complain about....
Wow!!!! I would expect nothing less. Tribalism and non-progressive/regressiveness at it's prime. I regretably can't/won't dignify that ignorance with a response.
p.s. hope your not passing that foolishness on to the next generation.
WHITEMENCANJUMP....YOU ARE A F*CKIN DUMBASS!!!! REALWOMAN AND YAA_THEORY....I COMMEND YOU BOTH BECAUSE YOU ARE TALKING TO A BONA FIDE JACKASS. THIS M*THAPH*CKA DON'T HAVE THE SENSE GOD GAVE A MULE. WHITEMENCANJUMP, YOU ARE NOT NOT MAKING ANY SENSE, YOU'RE CONTRADICTING YOURSELF ON SOOOOOO MANY LEVELS....AND YOU'RE JUST A JEALOUS ASS MAN. GET THE F*CK OVER IT. A BLACK BEAUTIFUL NON-SPORT PLAYING WOMKAN WON THAT SPOT FAIR AND SQUARE. AS I STATED ABOVE, THE WHITE PEOPLE ARE UPSET BECAUSE THEIR BONY WHITE MODELS ARE BORING THE HELL OUTTA ALLLLLLL OF US (BLACK, WHITE, GREEN, GRAY, MAN OR WOMAN) AND IT WAS TIME TO BEING SOME MEAT TO THE TABLE. SICK OF JUST SKIN AND BONES!!! AND YES....EBONY, JET, ESSENCE, SISTER 2 SISTER, ARE ALLLLLL MAGAZINES GEARED TO BLACK WOMEN...PERIOD. SPORTS ILLUSTRATED IS GEARED TO EVERY GOTDAMNED RACE WHO LIKES SPORTS AND WANNA READ IT, NOT JUST WHITES. IF CHRISTINA AGUILERA GRACED THE COVER OF ONE OF THE "GEARED TO BLACK PEOPLE" MAGAZINES, IT'S BECAUSE HOMEGIRL DOES HAVE SOUL. SHE MAY NOT BE A SOUL SINGER, BUT FOR THE MOST PART, SHE IS ACCEPTED IN OUR COMMUNITY. NOW, YES WE WOULD BE PISSED IF SHE GOT THE COVER OVER SOMEONE LIKE BEYONCE OR PATTI LABELLE, OR ARETHA OR EVEN WHITNEY WHEN SHE WAS DOING HER THING, AND WE KNEW THEY SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN IT INSTEAD. BUT IF IT WAS JUST HER BECAUSE OF A RANDOM REASON...SO BE IT.
AND ANOTHER THING, LOOK HOW MANY TIMES MARIAH CAREY HAS GRACED THE COVER OF A "GEARED TO BLACKS" MAGAZINE AND NOBODY EVER TRIPPED AND SHE DOESN'T EVEN CLAIM SHE'S MIXED WITH BLACK LIKE TALKING ABOUT IT.
LOOK HOW MANY TIMES WHITNEY HOUSTON HAS GRACED THE COVER OF A "GEARED TO WHITES" MAGAZINE AND NOBODY MADE A FUSS???
THESE ARE JUST THINGS TO THINK ABOUT AND PUT INTO PERSPECTIVE BEFORE YOU START TALKING S*IT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT.
AND SWEETHEART, YOUR DUMBA** JUST GOT STOMPED BY NOT ONE, NOT TWO, BUT THREE BLACKWOMEN. DON'T STEP IN THE YARD UNLESS YOU READY TO BATTLE!!!
YOU'LL NEVER WIN A FIGHT WITH A BLACK WOMAN!!!
You people are so laim. For those of you who are in denial about this being a race issue, let me put some things into perspective for you. I'll begin by addressing the "she is not a model" issue. Okay, agreed. But ask yourselves what ultimately makes a model a model? Great looks with a matching body (no matter how subjective). I'm sure they have to master a certain walk or something but the prerequisites are 100% superficial. With that said, Beyonce fits the bill for the most part.
Next subject, "It's like rappers who take jobs from actors." A very select few (embryos) began their lives as actors. Meaning, they had to start somewhere. Aspiring actors/actresses have taken jobs from veterans actors/actresses in the past and will continue to do so because that's how the industry is designed. Would it be better if the rappers were not rappers? Instead, just an average joe trying to make it in Hollywood? A script shouldn't have to be tailored to an established actor's look or attitude--it should be the other way around. Sometimes, a rapper (not because he or she is a rapper) is better suited for the storyline. So, after that mouthful, Beyonce is not taking jobs from models; the models have fallen short in some way.
Some more nonsens I came across: "black people would be mad if white people graced Ebony or HypeHair, or if country singers were featured in Vibe magazine" Are you serious? Please tell me that you are NOT comparing apples to oranges? Oh you are? Okay. Anyway, let's review the relationship shall we?
Sports Illustrated = Sports. Shouldn't have atheletes been on the cover? Oh well, if they made the decision to use a model, then I guess they could bend the rules a little farther in Beyonce's case.
Ebony = ethnic magazine. (ethnic with respect to African American Heritage)
Hype Hair = Ethnic hairstyles and ethnic hair care...need I say more?
Vibe Magazine = Urban Entertainment (if Country singers were featured, then Vibe magazine would not be Vibe magazine)
Now I know I lost some of you by now but these are someone's (actually) a couple of people's arguments. It's just not the same people. Get a clue!! Beyonce in the place of a model could happen. Country singers in Vibe, NO. LL Cool J in the movie S.W.A.T. YES. Cameron Diaz in HypeHair, NO. Some things just won't work. However, there is nothing concrete that should exclude Beyonce from the SI cover. People may not want to see her (I'm tired of seeing her myself--then again, I don't read SI so I'm good), but just say that and stop reaching for valid excuses.
And for all of you who KEEP saying "Tyra Banks has been on the cover. TWICE." Is it me or is there something wrong with this statement?
Lastly, I'm curious. If Beyonce decided to become a full time model, do you think she'd make it?
Very valid arguments.....I don't believe she would make it in the same realm that Giselle Tyra or Naomi made it. Too short too wide for the market that supports modeling. You know the Versace Gucci people.
realwoman, datgurlcansing, and MTOsideline, thanks for holding it down.
Above all though, you know what I respect? I respect the "Skinheads." At least they admit that they are racist. They wouldn't dance around the race issue. They'd come out and say, "Beyonce shouldn't be on the cover of SI cuz she's a N.I.Double G.ER.
WhiteMenCan"Not"Jump, you know you came here just so you express your racist attitude and opinions. Please take that sheet off of your face. Expose yourself. Like I said before I don't care if no more Black faces ever graced Vogue or Elle or any white driven anything. Whether it's MTV or VHI, or Seventeen, etc. etc. We have our own magazines to see our beautiful queens get their proper respect. We arrived because of who we are and what we've fought through, not because we were accepted on some White demographically created magazine.
We have stated this over and over again to you, SI is not a white man's magazine. This was the music issue and they chose the hottest female in the game to cover it. Plus she wore her own bathing suit. I know they really hate that. Go head B with your bad self.
But let me ask you this, if this was not a music issue of SI and Serena or Venus Williams did the swimsuit edition, would you be upset? I'm asking you this because you said and I'm going to quote you, "No no no "yaa theory" SI is dedicated to SPORTS and they had a MUSICIAN!!!!on the cover...So sports people don't want to see artists on the cover."
Do you think those white models would be upset? You know what I say? Hell to the Yeah, they would and you would too. You know why? Cause you hate that Black people have transcended and surpassed everything that White AmeriKKKA has tried to keep from us.
I'm a sports fanatic and my boyfriend has a subscription to SI. He loved looking at B do her thang. And trust me so did alot of other brothas including a great deal of Blackletes who have also commented on the issue.
You can be honest. Just tell the truth. You're upset that she's Black and on the cover. You can be honest. Go ahead and say it. Get it out of your system. Say, "I hate that Beyonce is on the cover because she's a N _ G G _ R. This is your first step to healing. This is a forum. No need to hide behind your sheet anymore. We don't know you.
Damn B, I wish you would have just taken the Vogue cover from Jennifer Hudson. We wouldn't even be going through this.
Anyway, it won't bother me at all if it takes another 10 years for them to put another Black on the cover. We don't need White's approval. We're all Beautiful.
And please don't let your next post be, "I'm Black." We've been there with so many of you RedNecks before. After we put yaul on blast and in your place, you say, "I'm Black." I'll start. I like some white people, but I hate mutha_U_K_NG Crackers. Guess which one you are!!!!!!
I don't think Beyonce should have been on that cover, and I think Beyonce is very pretty - just not the right mag for her. The pictures were just "cute". She can photograph far better than that. No justice to her career with that cover. She needs to be a little more selective.
Okay, this question is for Darknlovelync! I do agree with what you say about us embracing eachother and moving on. But What the Fucc do you mean by "Origanal Black Women" I really hope that I am misunderstanding, b/c it sounds like you're saying light skinned women w/ long hair isn't origanal. Let me tell u someting! First of all I am light skinned with black hair down my back. Men of all races have hit on me before. But what you don't understand is that the light women is just as original as the dark woman and our struggles are just the same. It's just that white men feel that they can take us and use us as thier whores and nothing more. So as long as Beyonce wears her blonde wigs and such they will fantisize about her even if they are too ashamed to admit it. That's why she's on the cover!
Hey stop fronting you know white men love black women but hey they wont take you home to momma and they wont be seen with us in public. The only ones really mad in the whole situation are the models. The men love it. LOLOLOLOLOL
- BEYONCE ...an INSULT ? I know thats a LIE !
- THOSE guys don't know who BEYONCE IS ? ANOTHER LIE !
IF these things were said, they look MAD jealous that a Black singer, a VERY succesful BLACK singer, STOLE THE SHOW from those models and IT'S WORKING.
SI been in bus for a looooooonnnnng time. Putting BE ON THE COVER WILL DRAW THE OLD HEAD (they like a pretty face and beautiful body no matter who's head it's on) AND NEW HEADS ( the other ppl who dont normally buy SI )....
KNOCK em DEAD BE !
I am not a big beyonce fan but I can understand what the models are saying. Most supermodels careers have flourished from being ...
Honey, thats life. If it werent 1 model, another model would've gotten it. That's a lame argument or position for them to take IMO...no way i wouldve exposed my jealousy like that...B/c they are looking jealous as hell
Point is, SI made a very good move.
A celebrity who everybody and their grandma wants to see in a swimsuit...on the SI cover...plus she has a movie out ....
BE just killin they ass and they don't know what to dayum do !
If anyone has already made this point, please forgive me...I was too lazy to read all of the comments. The reason Beyonce is on the cover is because it is a music issue of the magazine. Unless the angry models have sold millions of records, they can just go back to the catwalks of Milan with all the nonsense. I do, however, want to make another point. I am from Houston (GO T-MAC) and my husband and I have seen Beyonce in person, without the airbrush makeup, and without all the "weave" many of you have so eloquently stated she wears. Make no mistake about it: she is still pretty without it. So let's please kill the hatred and embrace each other.
I thought the theme of this month's SI was singers, entertainers, etc. So those lil anorexic, white hos need to chill out! I understand alot of celebs are takin' away the spotlight on many fashion magazines, but they gotta fought SI and not peeps like Beyonce who just tryna be beautiful and doin' her thing!
I understand the angst of the models. SI swimsuit cover has always gone to a model and rightfully so. Models don't have the easy opportunity to make an album and act in movies like Beyonces does; so the cover should have duly gone to a model as always. After all, modelling is their bread and butter and B has enough going on for her anyways. The more troubling issue is the reaction to the black entertainers in the magazine. If this story is indeed true it would be truly shocking as there are so many black athletes out there. Simply goes to show not everyone who smiles with you is for you.
Old news. This was from back in February of this year. These dummies @ MTO didnt even remember to remove the date from wherever they cut and pasted the article from, when they made the decision to try and bring this as news 8 months later. This site is so undeniably lame
