This is suprising because I have heard famous and non-famous people alike refer to her show as one of the best they have ever seen. Besides, people who did not even know who she was just showed up to see cause it was free. It was over their heads and they left. Probably not enough glitter or Pyrotechnics. Anita is always one of the best, poised, classy, and talented no extras necessary. You guys Be Good. |

no one was walking out on anita baker ..where did this come from.I paid to see her at Radio City in Newe York which is a major hall several weeks ago and I was at the concert in Brooklyn last night... She is absolutely amazing... any person who last in the music industry as long as she has..and still give concerts speaks volumes.. she was incredible....it's funny female that are older who posesess talent, class, dignity, grace and are not full of crap are always scrutinized ( Diana , Aretha, gladys, patti Dionne, Whitney, Vanessa)but these no talented younguns are always praised and will never ever hold a candle to the anita bakers of the industry.. her Radio city concert was sold out and last night the park was pascked to the max how many of todays singers can pack any arena as ssingle artist.. |

You're right, White people NEVER do that shyt to their own, that's why their artists can still sell out stadiums and concert arenas 20-30 years after they last had a hit! And not only that, but their KIDS are fans, too, so they ALWAYS have an audience. We black people don't do that. Do you think that Earth Wind and Fire can sell out stadiums and make millions of $$$ like the Rolling Stones still do? Hell no because we don't support our own artists. You would probably get more white people going to see EWF in concert than blacks because we have no respect for our history, yet all other races and cultures do and they're the ones getting rich off of it. Wow I wish I was there, I woulda stayed to the break of dawn to listen to Anita. She hasn't changed one bit! it's very evident in in her video, My Everything, she hasn't lost her touch and the video is very nostalgic, very similiar to her late 80's videos. and it was very much produced in 03, 04 and i'm sure she did this purposely to remind her fans of what we loved so much about her: for me, it's her passion for her craft! i'm just 25 years old and this lady has made a HUGE impact on my life and i don't know what i'd do without her music!

BULLCRAP!! I had to register for this site just so that i could respond to this. I was there for the Anita show and I did NOT see people leaving in droves in the middle of the show, nor did i hear one remark from Anita that tried to pull the people back in. She didn't sing, she SANG!! I wonder where you are getting this info. because the crowd i was with and the people I saw around me were very much pleased. She looked FAB and gave a show as if we paid $125 tickets. And she did things with her voice that I've never heard her do on a cd. Flawless. Now I will say we kept commenting on the CROWD which was dead and tired!!! But honey, the fans, the ones who really know about Anita were going crazy (one guy would yell at the beginning of every song 'THAT'S MY S**T!!'). Every single song she sang was a hit I noticed many young people and others who just seemed to be there just to be there and not necessarily for Anita. It is a free event, so why not. But all that i'm saying was witnessed when she 'ended' the show and yes a lot of people just zoomed out, but the ones who stayed, which was still half the park, cheered for more and she came back with an encore of 'Angel' (and that song right there seperates the Anita fans from the passerbys)...and Lord, we damn near lost our minds. Again, Sandra, where are you getting this feedback???!! Cuz EVERYONE I know who went was 100% happy and beyond. I noticed half the people that commented here weren't even there! I find that we are sometimes too quick to rip people apart. |

You know I kept hearing about these comments on mediatakeout and had to come on here and see it for myself and sign up to make a dern comment. Umm I was there and the show that Ms. Anita Baker gave was EXCELLENT!!!, I agree with one of the comments no one was walking out her show like was reported, yes about 9:30 some people in the front got up and walked and she made a comment but gessh we don't know if they came back or it might have been late and they wanted to go. People do leave Wingate early sometimes to avoid the crowds getting out. If Anita was so terrible like you wrote then why did she have to come back and do a ENCORE. Come on people again don't believe everything you read and mediatakeout needs to check there informants ouy because what they have said about this concert was a LIE!!!!.

LEGENDARY SONGSTRESS CAPTURES BROOKLYN WITH SWEET LOVE SONGS BY Ra SHAWN CHISOLM
Singer/songwriter Anita Baker had the crowd at Brooklyn’s Wingate Field under her musical and magical spell this past week. Known for her smooth and soulful jazzy voice phrasing and classic love songs, Baker became one of the top selling female artists selling millions of records and winning numerous awards, and she showed the crowd that she still has what it takes to work a crowd.
Her set began with DJ Vaughn Harper from WBLS introducing the Grammy Award winning legend, who draped in a black sequenced gown, walked around her fabulously decorated stage blowing kisses to the crowd who in turn, shared their loved before she performed her singles “Mystery” and “Sweet Love” which had the crowd out their seats and Baker so touched by the crowd’s positive reaction that she had them sing the chorus of the latter song before she began performing her classic song.
After expressing her love to the crowd, and telling them to have fun, she launched into “365 Days (Same Ole Love) and No One in The World and “Just Because” which had members of the audience hugging their loved ones. She later displayed her scatting skills while performing “Missing You Baby” and “Caught Up In The Rapture” where featured a nice call and response between her and the background vocalist and a hot solo by her saxophonist Rodney Taylor who received a wild round of applause. Before performing a Jazzy rendition of her classic “Giving You The Best That I Got,” Baker explained why she was constantly ad-libbing and scatting in between songs; ‘It’s to show you that there is no tape recorder” she told the crowd who showed her love for the remark in reference to many of today’s artist who lip-synch during their concerts. She then performed “Fairy Tales” and “You Bring Me Joy” and returned for the encore performance of her solo debut single “Angel” which she told the crowd they had to help her sing. “Fairy Tales is usually the encore, but since I performed it earlier, you have to help me on this one”
Anita Baker’s concert was fabulous. Not only was the fan entertained by her music, the crowd loved her set, sense of humor and sassiness (especially when she told them that her show will always be a family show) and her voice, and though it would be nice for her to add her singles “Good Love,” “I Apologize” and “My Funny Valentine” to her repertoire, she still has the magic to capture fans with her rapture of sound and love.
Anita Baker will also be appearing at Seabreeze near Coney Island Thursday, August 16. Showtime is at 7:30 PM

I was never at an Anita Baker concert, i am all the way in Guyana South America but one thing fo' sure is it is prsumptious to disrespect a woman of this class she is the queen of classic r&b.
She is a cross over pop success artist she has 8 grammys {was nominated this year also}4 american music awards and 7 soultrain awards along with many others not forgetting millions of dollars to her name.

People, although I'm an Anita Baker fan and could be biased, I'll shoot it to you guys straight. Media Take Out is straight irresponsible for this article. Here are some of the things that are true. 1)Yes, SOME people did walk out. BUT the fact of the matter is that this happens EVERY week. Fact of the matter is that a lot of people have to get to work in the morning and if you traveled over to the field by train and have to go back home and get ready for work, it's a lot to ask to be out until 11. Moreover, the venue is smack dab right in the middle of a neighborhood as the concerts are open to everyone (as accessible as walking to the corner store for a bag of chips), so usually the concerts are attended by a ton of younger people;kids still in their teens...so after they fill their curiosities they leave.
2) Yes, she did make an "old and tired" remark, BUT as a previous poster stated, this was taken completely out of context. Fact of the matter is that Anita Baker's voice sounded really really good last night. Even when the reverb, which artists usually use to carry their voices during live performances was not working properly, she sounded wonderful. If I were to give a percentage of people who left early, I would say it was 10-15 percent tops. Also, if you were at the performance you can also take into consider how long it took to exit the venue when the concert was over. It took quite a few minutes because MOST people stayed 'til the end. DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE!!!
*Note: I was at the Lauryn Hill concert and did stay until the end. I am also a fan of hers, but you can believe what you've read when they say that A WHOLE HEAP of people walked out within' the first 45 mins. of a 2 hr. + show. |
