: Have you been wondering what former R&B great El DeBarge has been up to lately? Well MediaTakeout.com found out that Janet Jackson's former brother in-law is in a California prison. According to the below report, Eldra DeBarge is being held on $20,000 bail for a "felony" arrest.
And it looks like he's having a hard time coming up with the $20,000. Because according to the same report, he's been sitting in jail since Monday.
So far the authorities over at the jail are pretty tight lipped about what he's charged with. But MediaTakeOut.com is hearing whispers that it may have had something to do with drugs.

Eldra always looked like he had a little sugar in his tank...but if it is drugs he does not "need Jesus"...he needs help. Drug abuse is a disease which affects the physical body. It is not solely a matter of "weak mental constitution" although the catalyst could be cause by psychotropic issues like depression or anxiety.

I wonder if it will ever come out about the "secret" baby Janet had with James, that the youngest brother (not Chico, the one under him that came out trying to rap 2yrs ago. Don't know his name.) told the media about. If it is true and ever does come out, that girl would be about 18 or 19 now.

He actually had a long career. The brothers had a group called "Switch" that did well before they became "DeBarge" then he went solo after that. Some of y'all don't know nothing about the song "I call your name." I'm not that old, my mom used to play it all of the time. lol.

Switch was compiled with the two older brothers of the Debarge family. Bobby and Tommy Debarge. The other band members were not related to them.
Jermaine Jackson signed the young group and that's probably why Janet got with James. The families have been working together at Motown for years.
Debarge later came out and included all siblings, Randy, El, Bunny, James and Mark. After a sucessful career that included everything from music to movie and tv show appearances, El decided it was time for a solo-career. (Bunny left to start a family)
My family is from Grand Rapids and Detroit as this family is, and in spite of all of the tragedy this family has gone through, I will always be a fan of all of their music. Everyone from Switch all the way down to Chico Debarge.

Just because somebody doesn't have number 1 albums and videos every year doesn't mean their career is over. El was still doing shows and singing some jazz stuff with groups like Fourplay. Not to mention, he should be living comfortably still from the royalties from all their #1 hits. Lifegroove you must be in your teens or something. The DeBarges made some good songs that are sill being heavily played.
There has alway been a history of drug abuse in their family. Bunny might be the only one who didn't use them.

There family has always had problems with drugs, from the older brothers in the group "switch" being hooked on drugs, james and chico. Wow I didn't know that Bunny was on them, but if she was it doesn't surprise me.
He has a younger brother that is fine as hell, I can't remember his name he came out with a real hot album a couple of years ago after he did a bid and he appeared in some stage plays. Now he can get it....he is fine. Did ya'll notice how they put B for BLACK for his race on the documents. Wooooooow, Chico did THAT??? And I've always known about Marvin Gaye, in fact, a lot of those Motown artists did SOME sort of substance, including Smokey Robinson, who did a lot of the artists' song writing.

ISIS thank goodness someone else read the artilce correctly. I was reading the post and started thinking that I had misread what was said. IT SAYS BROTHER IN LAW NOT EX HUSBAND. I have no idea what he's in for, but if he can't make the bail he isn't doing to well these days. This is sad. I think he's the third one of the Debarge Brothers to go to jail. Oh and I never thought he looked good, so I say yeah he's aged, but he is older now.

This family has been troubled as many as you have stated for a long time. I recently read on the internet an excerpt from their sister Bunny's (who was strung out on drugs for a long time) upcoming book. There was sexual abuse from the father (much like which has been alleged about the Jacksons') of everyone the boys and the girls. In addition there was suppose to have been some incesterous relationships between the siblings (I think Bobby was suppose to have raped Tommy). It's deep. If anyone is interested I can find the website I found the information on and post it. Sexual abuse is just so horrible. Some people never recover from it. I use to work with the father's second wife and their son was killed a couple of years ago in a car accident. Generational curses are real.

I knew their family had a history of substance abuse, but i didn't know about the abuse going on in their home. That is so sad. I wasn't surprised that this was a domestic violence charge, because it's not his first one. Several years ago, he was arrested for beating up a girlfriend in a hotel room. I hope for the best for the entire family, and my heart goes out to them all. They were the bomb back in the day, and "I Call Your Name Girl" by Switch will ALWAYS be one of my favorites, and "You Wear It Well" was a DeBarge favorite.
1) That picture was taken in 2001; in the more recent ones, he looks a LOT better (check gettyimages or something)plus, in the more recent pics he has white teeth. 2)DeBarge cannot post bail even if he wanted to because of previous warrants for his arrest in narcotics cases, said sheriff's spokesman Deputy Tony Moore. 3)DeBarge is black/french canadian 4) With 10 kids and almost as many ababy mamas; i doubt he is gay.
